Hybrid Striped Bass and Landlocked Striper Fishing and Tackle:
Winter Hybrid Striper fishing [A1, A2, A3]is definite favorite for many anglers. In some waters, there are lots of fish, they're relatively easy to find, and they may be larger after bulking up in summer/fall. Look for schools of fish in tributary arms of the lake. Good areas also include underwater humps, river-channel and other drops, submerged standing timber and other structure. Classic winter producers include herring, shad, minnows, and shiners and other live bait . Spoons or plugs are also good for surface fish.
Many of the traditional musky and pike plugs such as the Suick Musky Thriller are making their way into hybrid fishing. |
Hybrid striped bass, also known as a wiper or whiterock bass, is a hybrid between the striped bass (Morone saxatilis) and the white bass (M. chrysops). Landlocked Striped bass are an anadromous fish that have become landlocked or have been stocked in landlocked water. Some stripers could go back to the sea, but for various reasons stay in fresh water.
For Striped Sea Bass, try:
- A strong reel like the Penn Sargus with a decently stiff rod.
- Baitfish, stick bait imitations like the Bomber Long A's
- Some anglers use pre-made flounder rigs
