Salmon species can be fished in freshwater as well as salt. Most salmon species are born in fresh water, but live the majority of their lives in ocean waters. They will then return to the stream where they hatched to spawn before they die. Other species are land locked. Different Salmon species require different rod and reel setups. Generally, Salmon are big powerful fish that demand a rod with strong backbone, but not so strong that "feel" is lost. All types of rod/reel combos are used including spinning, casting, mooching, and fly.
