Walleye Fishing Tackle:Muskellunge

Walleye (Sander vitreus) is found in Northern US and most of Canada. The walleye is considered very good to eat and is fished recreationally and commercially. It is a often called a Pike, but is not related to the Pike.

Walleye gets it name from the fact that their eyes reflect white light; this characteristic gives them excellent visual acuity under low illumination levels including dusk/dawn, cloudy days, dirty or turbid waters and rough waters. Many anglers look for walleyes at night since this is when major feeding patterns occur. Because of its nocturnal feeding habits, it is most easily caught at night using live minnows or lures that mimic small fish.

For Walleye, try:
Walleyes grow to about 31 inches and 20 pounds depending on location. The record is 42 inch and 25 pounds [A1,A2]. Walleye are very popular with recreational anglers. Night fishing with live bait can be very effective. Various "Walleye Jigs" are another very effective approach for catching Walleye. A very common setup is to tie on a 3/8 ounce jig and attach a minnow. There are many effective lures as well.
