Fishing Line and Leaders:For better casting, better presentation, more reliable retrieves, and extended line life: keep your line out of direct sunlight, avoid heat, and avoid chemicals. Line conditioners will also help.
Almost all anglers change lines at least once a year; others will change their line several times during the season; some tournament anglers will change line every night. There is a middle ground in there for you. That middle ground you choose should keep the spool full, allow you to strip line in order to minimize tangles and wind knots, replace sun weakened lines or chafed lines, preparing you for that fish of a life time. Clearly, the move is away from mono to fluorocarbons and braids. To save money or to fill the reels, many anglers will fill their reels with cheaper mono and top off with a premium grade line such as fluorocarbon or braid. Check out some knots to build leaders or connect lines. |
