Steel and Titanium Leaders and Heavy Mono Leaders:
| Our Steel and Titanium Wire Leaders and Material:
|
It's common, especially in saltwater fishing, to use a leader at the end of the main fishing line to resist abrasion from the fishing environment. Rocks, sand, coral, docking can all quickly weaken line. Fish, especially toothy fish, also cause problems with their teeth and jaws and many other sharp parts.
Sharp or abrasive encounters quickly cut mono and flouro leaders losing you fish. Wire or cable, and even heavy mono or flouro, leaders can help. As a rule for metal leaders, the more strands in a cable the more supple and kink resistant it becomes. More strands also mean more diameter and less bite resistance and toughness. Making the decision to use either a mono or flouro leader versus a wire or cable leader can be difficult.
Today, there are some exciting alloys that make hard leaders easier to tie and use than the earlier generations of steel ... Titanium alloys are becoming very popular due to several desirable qualities.
